Allied health assistants (AHA)

What it an AHA?

An Allied Health Assistant (AHA) is a healthcare professional who works under the direction and supervision of an Allied Health professional (such as a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Pathologist) to provide support to patients. AHAs work in a range of settings, including hospitals, community health centers, private clinics, and aged care facilities.

What does a AHA do?

AHAs may assist with a variety of tasks, including:

  • Preparing treatment rooms and equipment
  • Helping patients with exercises or rehabilitation programs
  • Administering and monitoring therapeutic interventions
  • Providing education and support to patients and their families
  • Collecting and documenting patient information
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies.

How does an AHA work at Speak With Me

At Speak With Me, Allied Health Assistants are trained by the clinician (Speech Pathologist) to understand various theraputic strategies.

Once the AHA is confident in delivering these strategies, the clinician will write a program for a client. The AHA then follows the program written by the clincian with the client.

The AHA writes a note after every session which is reviewed by the speech pathologist. This informs the session program for next week (if it needs to be adjusted).
