Physiotherapy

Who is a Physio?

A physiotherapist, also known as a physical therapist, is a healthcare professional who specializes in helping people recover from injuries, illnesses, or disabilities that affect their movement and physical function. Their role is to promote physical mobility, prevent physical impairments, and improve overall quality of life for their patients..

What does a Physio do?

Some of the specific tasks that a physiotherapist might perform include:

  1. Assessing a patient's physical condition and functional abilities, including strength, range of motion, and balance.
  2. Developing a personalized treatment plan that includes exercises, manual therapies, and other interventions designed to improve mobility, reduce pain, and restore function.
  3. Teaching patients how to perform exercises and activities safely and effectively, and monitoring their progress over time.
  4. Providing education and advice to patients and their families about how to manage their condition and prevent future injuries or impairments.
  5. Working closely with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and occupational therapists, to ensure coordinated and effective care for the patient.

What types of techniques do physiotherapists use?

Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques, such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, ultrasound, electrotherapy, and heat and cold therapies, to help their patients recover from injuries or illnesses and regain their physical function and mobility.
